A shutdown is needed to stop the funding* for the militarization of American neighborhoods at the expense of health of Americans.

*Yeah, I know, funding for ICE & the actual military are not really affected in a shutdown. But the other side has never let the truth get in the way of a sales pitch.

At the risk of tangentially agreeing with Newt Gingrich, I think that it is easier to motivate the need for a shutdown in terms of stopping something from happening (or revoking funding for something) than as a negotiation to get something. Thankfully, that is exactly the situation we are in.

He has also threatened to fire these people if the government stays open. So ...
