In lieu of me yelling into the void about world events that I hate, but have no specific expertise in.

Not to split hairs here, but in many of those countries that don't have college sports, college is free. And in most of them, college doesn't cost 3-times the median household annual income.

I learned as a child that I cannot put three scoops of ice cream, a chocolate bar, and a piece of cake together and call it breakfast. No matter how much I wanted to.

Obama: "We are living in a time where it can be hard to hope. Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions. Another setback to the idea of the rule of law ... but this man - Rev. Jesse Jackson - inspires us to take a harder path ... bc if we don't step up, nobody else will"

Maybe we should be doing cheery "MMR for PrEP" commercials, featuring a 12 month old preparing to DJ at hip club and another strolling on a beach.

Wow. Thank you for sharing. Personal stories have been critical to maintaining national and international support for eradication efforts as rubella and CRS have (thankfully) become increasingly rare.

In response to a question: 90% of pregnancies in *unvaccinated* moms. Rubella vaccine is fantastically efficacious.

Vaccination protects mom and the fetus. Rubella vaccine is among the most efficacious vaccines we have.

Even as the rest of the world pushes ahead in the fight against rubella, which results in the loss of over 30000 cases of CRS and even more lost pregnancies each year, the loss of US leadership has been a severe blow. Each case report is a reminder of why this fight is worth it. /end

I have spent (along with countless tireless colleagues) 2 years fighting for the introduction of rubella vaccine to these countries. This first required a change to WHO policy in 2024 and then fighting against reprioritization due to the loss of funding for global vaccination w/ the end of USAID 3/

Notes from the Field: Congenital Rubella Syndrome ... This report describes cases of congenital rubella in ...

A case of a child born with congenital rubella syndrome in Florida (infection acquired outside the US) is a stark reminder of the risks we'll soon need to prepare for. This mother was exposed in South Africa, one of 19 countries that didn't vaccinate against rubella as of the start of 2024 2/

Increasing measles cases portend the silent building risk of rubella virus (the R in MMR) and congenital rubella syndrome (CRS). CRS is a constellation of developmental disabilities in children born to mothers infected early in pregnancy. As many of 90% of exposed pregnancies result in CRS 1/

Congenital rubella syndrome is horrible. This case from Florida in 2025 was not locally acquitted in the US. But falling MMR coverage rates could make this a much more likely outcome in the future.

I can't get over the performative cruelty of one senator (Mullin) challenging a witness to a fight in a hearing and another (Sheehy) breaking a protester's arm. A branch of our government is little more than a colosseum where gladiators fight to win the emperors pleasure.

Not to mention the strategic disadvantage we would have in any future conflict until stockpiles could be rebuilt and deployed.

A table indicating the number of days until depletion of Patriot missile stockpiles under 3 assumptions (2000, 3000, 4000). The days to exhaustion at current rates of 265 missiles per day are 7.5, 11, and 15 days.

This aligns closely with with real expert warnings. Christopher Preble of the Stimson Center warned that "the pace of operations right now, in terms of numbers of interceptions, could not continue indefinitely, certainly, and perhaps could not continue for more than several weeks"

Since the Dept of Defense seems to be using LLMS for war planning, I thought I'd ask the one they didn't choose if this was sustainable or advisable ... you'll be shocked to hear the answer.
