I started my vocal synth journey in Vocaloid2, but my favorite engine has to be Synth V! :D I really like anything Eclipsed Sounds does (because it's all good), Dreamtonics, and...maybe AHS. I think right now I'm too psyched about HXVOC to think thoroughly/accurately lol

If you're struggling, play with different beats and see what catches your interest. I think that could be playful and fun! There's so many possibilities!

Why don't you start by figuring out the beat? It's easier to put the other instruments into place when you have a good sense for the time signature. It lays the groundwork to build other parts of the melody.

Synth V2 Starry Court! The upgrade prices are so reasonable! I'm happy with that.
