I have no claims to pretentious that the work was noble. It was as appealing as Mr Collins's proposal to Lizzie.

There have been many good things about this year but the best thing that cannot quite equal anything is leaving the UK academia. You really get to see the egos growing disproportionately to the significance of people (small people problem and you know it).

Avon was literally me leaving town.

Literally, this is not just an indictment of how bad the Morrison government was at making choices (as the Court strangely hinted at) and how things have marginally improved (it hasn't!!). There is a larger malady that courts must hurry to remedy, rather than shoo everyone to public advocacy.

From the sound of it, the Court has yet again washed its hands off from pursuing the simple radicality of duty of care in the Pabai Pabai v Commonwealth. This is tremendously disappointing but also expected that no Australian institution is ready for a second Mabo moment.
