It was an emotional night if you are an NDP supporter but none of the parties walked away getting exactly what they wanted. Listen in on our last election panel.

Many thanks to CBC and my co-panelists. It’s been great to do this weekly political panel with you.

Thanks to @shawnalewk.bsky.social mentioning the Greens exclusion from the debates on the CBC political panel w/ @browncbc.bsky.social. Each election I/we are pressured to drop out & not split the vote. This is why I don't agree; our voices are silenced & democracy suffers. #cdnpoli #elxn45 #ldnont

Thx Carol. To expand, attending debates and being available to the media (not just on your terms) is being accountable to the people you want to represent. Avoiding either means your campaign is about you and your quest for power. Yes I’m talking about the Conservatives. #cdnpoli

Do Women and Caregivers Need More From The 'Mobility Hub'? β€” Streetsblog USA It's one of the buzziest planning concepts around. So why is there so little research on how well "mobility hubs" work for women and caregivers?

β€œTransport officials need a radically new framework for undrstndg the mobility needs of women + caregivers in our cities – and a good place to start is reimagining the "mobility hubs" where so many of their journeys begin,” says a new report. Feminist geographers have been studying this for decades!

If, for example, Trump says nobody is allowed to dance, on penalty of death, he has no legal power to make that declaration and no power to enforce it, but if everyone stops dancing it's as good as if he did. Reporting as though Trump has these powers helps give him those powers.

As an advocate I'm never surprised when horrible things happen. But I'm always shocked. That's why I keep fighting. If you lose the capacity to be shocked, you lose the ability to be human. Don't.

Indeed. I have a colleague who is doing research on toilets and people who are unhoused in San Diego and the politics are rough

There are some options but I’m in favour of washrooms that provide access to people who are unhoused as they need them most.

Here is the article. I have an update that at the committee meeting today, City of London staff agreed to open the Gibbons Park washrooms year round, likely beginning early in the new year when staff are in place.

Very much agree. That’s why I proposed a pilot in Gibbons and some extended signage. I’d like to see more but trying to ask for what I think is possible, while pushing for what is needed.

Good to see the City of London doing a report to inform future plans. I hope we can move beyond if washrooms are available to also include accessibility, quality and safety, privacy and dignity as key criteria, as per the UN framework on access to sanitation. #publictoilets #ldnont

This isn’t my specific area of focus but access for unhoused people is a big concern, especially when washrooms close in the winter. If someone menstruates or can’t covertly toilet, there are dignity and safety issues. Public washroom access is a human right, not a nice to have.

02.12.2024 13:46 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I was able to share some of my research on parks and access to good quality public toilets today on CBC London Morning. My research looks primarily at gendered access but I didn’t get a chance to talk about the impact on unhoused people, which is also gendered.
