Anyway I just want to shout out people doing hospitality really well and I hope they have all the success, cause they’ve really made a small motel into something super comfortable that I will actually book again instead of just grabbing any ol random place.

The early 2000’s fridge looked like it was brand new! The skirting boards shined. It was cleaner than my own home. Yes it’s kinda close to the railway. But I don’t mind the sound of a morning commuter train. It’s also close so super markets and salt & wood for a tasty dinner.

The owners clearly take pride in the place. I can see they regularly paint. It was a beautiful day and any unoccupied rooms were opened and left airing. The grounds were so tidy. I could see the housekeeping staff cleaning thoroughly cleaning the microwaves and fridges every day! Even if not used.

I just spent a few days on the Kapiti coast and just randomly booked the Kapiti gateway motel. Holy heck. I have never been in such a clean motel with amazing service. As soon as I drove in I was impressed. Immaculate grounds. The rooms, the shower, So clean! I mean the place isn’t new but

A dotteral of some kind. Giving me the stink eye. Cause I was walking on its sand. Fair my guy.

A bottle of leffe blonde. A Belgian beer. In a bottle, on my stove. Cause I’m chopping veges for dinner: the beer is to help me get through the chopping.

So this beer, can barely keep it on the shelves. Double face for the weekend, smashed. Triple faced, cases in reserve. Why do people love it so. I needed to know! I can report it cause it’s sweet as heck. A bit stronger than your usual beer and sweet. It’s delicious. Humans do be loving sugar.

An event finished late and I had to walk through the Auckland cbd quite late at night at a pace to catch the last bus home. I’m not churchy, but damn they do look pretty lit up at night.

Order beer for work, head brewer turns up with 5 kegs in an early 2000’s Toyota Corolla. I asked if that was the official brewery vehicle. “Oh it’s much easier on my back getting the kegs in an out of that than a Ute”
He’s not wrong. 😆 and the keg strapped into the front seat looked safe as houses.

Yet another recipe from a reel. This is dirty martini dip with hand stuffed blue cheese olives and a couple dirty martinis made with a lemon and caper infused vermouth. Served with salty proper crisps, each bite was total salty decadence.

Awww I just watched rental family with Brendon Fraser. I dunno why it was such a tear jerker for me! At its heart it’s about all of us wanting connection, feels like it’s never been harder.

And it didn’t just look good, it was super delicious with a white chocolate outer shell, lemony cheesecake centre and a spongy cake type thing in the centre soaked in a rich berry sauce.

A dessert that looks exactly like a tennis ball. Down to the fuzz and smooth white lines Plopped on a white plate with some berry sauce. I’m at the tennis and the court is in the background.

Sometimes work has its perks and I got treated to the tennis last night and look at this dessert! I love a theme. Also I was sitting right next to the players sweat towel. How they keep going for hours and hours in this heat is super impressive.

A no parking sign, on my lawn. They are ripping up all the foot paths in the area and putting in fresh concrete. It’s nice and smooth.

This is going on and every night when I get home I have to walk 5 miles to my house. #firstworldproblems

Trevally sashimi and thin slice nectarine, arranged artfully as an amateur chef can. Almost in a fish scale type pattern. Sprinkled with a little dehydrated yuzu and some baby spring onion.

Suckered into making some sashimi with thinly sliced nectarine by a reel. Well blow me down, it was actually really really good. Sprinkled with some dehydrated yuzu and I made a ponzu type dipping sauce. I felt fancy, it was like a restaurant dish at home!

Corpse reviver 2 cocktail, next to a bunch of flowers my paramour picked for me. It’s equal parts gin, lillet, orange liqueur, and lemon juice. Shaken over ice and poured into a glass that’s been rinsed with absinthe. Not sure if I feel revived. But it was delicious.

I’m a corpse and I need reviving.

Doing a little headlight polish for the first time ever. I bought this off my cousin a year ago as he was moving to Ireland. So far the paints falling off the doors, the seats are cracking and god knows what the roof wrap is hiding. But it covered some tickets and settling time I’m sure.

Gross, first day back at work and first customer of the day is driving a Carter holt Harvey truck and proudly wearing a make American great again hat. Nothing about America is great right now. Just admit you’re a fascist racist. 🤦🏻‍♀️ffs. I hate seeing those hats here.

Xmas. Good for her. I just silently forward emails to her, no comment. We have an arrangement. She has one extra letter in her email address in a weird spot that means she doesn’t get my emails. But if I ever visit the uk I am using all her loyalty programs

Ahhh makes sense! After 13 hour day the brain is not processing information correctly haha. Just looking at the website I can tell they care about what they do. Some wonderful quality product there!

Lovely! That’s so nice of them.
We used to be allowed to do that. But we’re a bit shafted in Auckland due to a law change, so no alcohol sales after 9pm allowed. 😭

It might have been the best Christmas ever for people being patient, kind and compassionate while shopping. I think this is the first year that none of the staff have ended up crying out back!
