I tell people it’s actually harder to manage/coach a blowout when you’re the better team than when you’re the worse. (Especially if you have any concern about not running up the score.)

Several HS soccer games come to mind. Cleared the bench, moved kids to new positions, instituted special restrictions on passing, etc but still kept scoring.

I get that we’re in a tough spot in that EVERY PIECE OF SOFTWARE WE ALREADY USE now has some sort of AI capabilities. But I still get the sense that we’re kneecapping learning and teaching out of FOMO.

We’re giving students guidance docs on how to “safely” use AI. We’re giving faculty advice on how to “safely” use AI.

Zero rationale provided for why we need to use it or if it’s good or right to do so.

I was not wrong.

I did have some great discussions with colleagues about the apparent lack of any consideration for the ethics or moral implications of what we were considering doing.

Also loved the non-answer to the “can we trust our data won’t be misused by OpenAI et al.” question. 🙃
