C is my guilty pleasure. It's objectively bad, but something about the marshmallow makes the chemo-choco-goo work. I could eat an entire box of them easy. I don't allow them in my house anymore.

Text is already the cheapest thing you can store on a computer, but having a second text database column most peeps will never look at with a char limit 7 TIMES LARGER attached to every post emphasizes how silly the restriction is. :/

I don't know... I think the character limit here is bigger than Twitter, even, but I'm constantly having to edit stuff down and split things across multiple posts. It's so messy and clunky and I don't understand the commitment to this restriction. @_@

...All that's a bit of a tangent, but I guess my point is that the issue is 85% structural, 15% changes in human behavior (which is largely by the structures). We can fight it and work harder to support each other, but being an artist is literally harder now cuz of the way sites are built. :(

I LOVED looking thru people's faves on DA, but the closest approximation of that function would be, a repost-only sideblog these days, rather than a (private) like. I think that shift in website functionality has really made things a lot harder for artists to be seen.

So it totally makes sense and I definitely also fall into that when I'm short on time (which is often)... but sadly likes are so useless on most sites now, it's not like a fav back on DA where it meant curating this public gallery of your favorite works.

Yep, there's so much going on now and more and more sites are tending toward 'feeds' (where posts are harder to access as time passes) rather than inboxes you can check at your leisure.. you may not be able to type thoughtful comments on a 15 min break at work but you can "like", it's faster/easier.

I used to worry more about being too personal (or, maybe worse, sounding like a brown-noser sucking up to a "popular" artist for surely nefarious and exploitive purposes) and have also trashed half-written comments for similar reasons... but I think everyone would rather have something than nothing!

It semi-regularly suggests the tag 'dragon' for him though, which I think he'd find very affirming

So you have a much more reasonable character limit, but only for a feature 98% of people will never look at and that doesn't even work or display properly if you do want to look at it...

Why keep the 300 char limit on posts at all, man. Grumble grumble.

I'm experimenting with alt text because I heard it improves discoverability (???). Interesting that the character limit is 2000... so, like, Bluesky recognizes that you can't possibly accurately express an idea within 300 chars, yet keeps that limit in place anyway? :I

That + the era where every disagreement or social misstep became a big public mockery/callout/dogpile really chilled things so hard re: engaging w/art. I've always tried to be kind & assume good faith in comments even if kinda rude/inappropriate but the wider social context shifted regardless. :(

Same here. :( That's another one I'm blaming on the move to more "public" formats a la Twitter... it's not a semi-private convo between you and the artist now like a hidden away Tumblr reply, every word is now performance for the panopticon. Which is scary, even if you're just talking to a friend!

I'm trying to just throw caution to the wind and say what's on my mind when I wanna compliment, tho. No second guessing. No "is this weird". Pretty sure almost everyone would rather have a quick awkward compliment or slightly misremembered OC-engagement-comment from me than 0 comments. Right?

We really just need a space for artists and art appreciators, man. It feels like "my people" have been scattered to the wind & the creativity we can manage between paying bills gets lost so easily in the churn.

Love doing the casual outfits with these refs. He’s such a greasy man thing. Also wanted to make his cape have a sort of mythical glow to it. Give him more of a presence!
