(B) Diverging lineages evolve nonbreeding divergence during a period of allopatry. Scenario (C) is a proposed model of sympatric speciation via the evolution of novel nonbreeding strategies. Alternatively, in scenario (D), divergence in nonbreeding strategies arises but does not precipitate reproductive isolation.
