Oof, meant the latter isn't mentioned much.

When we talk about inflation are we differentiating between the economic constant and monopolies price gouging/profiteering? Cause I don't see the former mentioned much.

One of these things is not like the other ones. See if you can figure it out kids!

ICE shot someone, ran off and left paperwork in their vehicle, which was then raided.

Super secret details of these images that include ALL the information for the ICE attacks in MN.

Definitely don't call the phone numbers or bother the nazis or share their information or hack them.

You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof. What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

My latest for Slate

Screenshot of a data visualization titled β€œThe Cost of American Exceptionalism,” subtitled β€œWhat would change if the U.S. matched the OECD average?” The page explains that each card shows how outcomes would change if the U.S. matched the average of 31 peer democracies. Below, a section labeled β€œEconomy & Inequality” displays eight cards comparing U.S. figures to OECD averages. Highlights include: +$19K per household per year in redistributed income and +$96K in redistributed wealth if the top 1% matched OECD shares; a 71% lower CEO-to-worker pay ratio (from 354Γ— to 101Γ—); 50 million more workers with union coverage; 26 million more people with health insurance; $2.1 trillion saved annually in healthcare spending; $691 less per person per year in prescription drug costs; and intergenerational economic mobility being twice as high. Each card shows the U.S. value alongside the OECD average.

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧡

The Woke Mob Was Right The death of Renee Good is the latest example of why the woke, radical left anti-fascists marching through the streets were right about every single thing.

After the George Floyd protests, right-wingers needed something to counter demands from the largest protest movement in US history. Fortunately, they found a word that fueled their white backlash AND demonized anyone who supported police reform, equality or human decency.

"Woke"

It is going to happen this year. You know what I mean. God’s will. Naturally of course. No need to come knocking on my door. I’m chilling at home and I’ll be chilling at home when it happens. Before I go running out into the streets that is. Shaking the mailman’s hand. Kissing nurses and shit. All of a sudden there’s a drumline and a mariachi band and breakdancers and fuckin… David Guetta is DJing on a rooftop if David Guetta is still alive. Maybe we’ll even get to watch it live on TV. The first flicker that something is really wrong. Slowing it down and rewinding it after like when Lisa broke Ralph’s heart. The realization in his eyes. The first single moment of self awareness in 80 years. Like a flailing panicked deer you’ve crashed your car into on the side of a snowy mountain pass. The eyes fluttering back and forth. Surely this can’t have been it. Perhaps a brief bargaining with God. God saying he’s going to pass on the deal. I do not agree with your terms sir. It’s gonna be like the Will Smith Summertime video out there. Everywhere. We’re all going to get fired from our jobs for posting. 100% unemployment. One good day.

🚨BREAKING🚨

I just released the full report on Congress trading in 2024.

Like every year since 2020, some US politicians beat the market.

From the start of 2024 to year end, many had unusual trades & huge portfolio gains.

Here are the top political traders of 2024.

Theoretical question: If this billionaire was stuck with a pitchfork, would he bleed cocaine? Bullshit? or evil sewage ichor? (feel free to insert your punishment of choice - guillotine, tar and feather, hung from lamp post, etc...)

I've been working with Demos to turn the Verification, Deliberation, and Accountability (VDA) Framework into a report that lays out how it can be used to diagnose the state of democracy and build solutions around building the capacity for those functions in institutional and public spaces.
