A JP-styled Psittacosaurus I did for fun. Ultimately, I think it looks better and more distinct with the quills even if they were only described after the first trilogy had wrapped (from what I can tell).

I'd been meaning to post more art here and it totally slipped my mind for a bit there.

But, with Jurassic World Evolution 3 coming out soon (including a host of baby dinos & other animals) I figured I'd share more of the hypothetical baby JP/JW animal designs I did a while back.

I guess not a notch the same way spinosaurs have it, but a lot of ceratopsians have some โ€œcrookโ€ in their upper beak.

It has that same sort of sneering shape as the tip of the JP Spinoโ€™s snout, especially when people exaggerate the keratin, so it was a good jumping-off point.

It helps that some ceratopsians have the notch too, much easier to blend & integrate the Spino.

Here's a quick T. rex stop motion test I did yesterday, with a puppet I've made. I wanted to animate more, but I bumped into the camera ๐Ÿ™„

The puppet is made of wire and foam for the body. The head is made of a 3D print skull by Vitamin Imagination, and the "skin" is just unbaked sculpey

And, if anybody wanted this to be a bit more overtly hybridized or amalgamated, I do have these two from a while back that really lean into the crocodile angle:

11.04.2025 18:22 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 6    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

With the real design, itโ€™s very much not my cup of tea. Feels very in line with the art direction of the JW movies and very far from that of the first 3 films. It follows the broad strokes of Spinosaurus without doing much else. Feels a bit too much like a Primeval design for me.

11.04.2025 18:22 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Really this was about making a JP (rather than JW) styled animal, that built off the actual animal to come up with a neat-looking design. I even leaned into the marine/semi-aquatic lifestyle and moved the nostrils to the top of the head, somewhat like a blowhole.

I went a bit less โ€œrejectโ€ with this one, but still kept the broad strokes (short neck, more accurate, gnarly look). I borrowed a lot from the textures of JP3โ€™s Spino while still retaining some croc and made the skull more like Spinosaurus to highlight its distinctive look.

An illustration of an alternate take on the Spinosaurus from Jurassic World: Rebirth, with the main differences being a more defined spinosaurine skull, a slimmer but still shortened neck, and spikes along the sail on the tail. With the final design not yet revealed, it's hard to confirm what else counts as a notable change.

Here's my take on the Rebirth Spinosaurus!

I feel I've seen equal parts love and disdain for these guys, and frankly I'm with the latter. I don't love what I've seen so far, and being early attempts/more "modern" does not carry the design for me. Still much prefer JP3's.

I think the new look is nice overall. I guess itโ€™s lipped (though it doesnโ€™t look it), donโ€™t love the random osteoderms along the back, colors are OK, huge fan of the top lobe of the caudal fin just being a giant shark dorsal fin. Not sure if I like it more or less than JWโ€™s yet.

I made this partly for the joke and partly because I donโ€™t have strong feelings towards it. Looks OK from what weโ€™ve seen (if not absolutely colossal omg), but we havenโ€™t seen much so I mostly went off merch. Not the best to work from, but itโ€™s what I have.

A drawing of the Jurassic World Rebirth Mosasaurus washed up on a beach, surrounded by the three smaller spinosaurs. Did I make this solely because the Rebirth Mosasaur looks a little โ€œportlyโ€ in the merch?

Yes, yes I did.

Similar to the Titanosaurus, I think this one ultimately looks OK, I'm just not crazy about it. Though I do kinda like the coloration and the idea of them nesting in Aztec/Mayan ruins carved into massive cliffsides is really cool.

I pulled a lot from different hornbill species to give it something similar to the "nose spike" in the trailer and serrations on the beak as in toucans to help with tearing flesh from anything too big to swallow. A bit of 90's Quetz skull made it in as well.

Next up it's the Quetzalcoatlus.

I've seen people say the Dominion look was perfectly fine and could've been used here again, and I generally agree with that. Though if they want to lean into the "wrong/unfinished" angle, I think some flashier head ornamentation might be nice.

The colors have enough going on, I like the stocky body, and I LOVE the overly long and flowy tail. But I don't love the seemingly reused Apato head with a domed nasal sac or the "fish fins" especially.

09.02.2025 20:02 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I get these are meant to be "flawed" or "unfinished" and I'm fine with the idea of a fantastical, "all-in one" sauropod, I think this looks fine on the whole. I just think there's a way to balance that while having more appeal and following the looks of earlier films.
