In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.
As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
Realizing now that 232 probably includes the front matter. This remains one of the wildest things I’ve seen.

Awful and dangerous to hear the Mayor echo the transphobic bigotry coming from the Trump administration. It's completely at odds with the values of our city and another reason why his single, disgraced term in office cannot end soon enough.

www.nytimes.com/2025/09/11/o...
The memory holing of Charlie Kirk’s fascism and cruelty is astonishing.
As I’ve seen many say, it’s indicative that the networks lionizing him for “debating” can’t actually play clips of him speaking.
On top of that, the credulity of the media is 🤦🏻♂️. Shouldn’t we have a journalism of suspicion?

I’m not here to police anybody’s feelings, but it does make me a little worried to see people gleefully celebrating not death, but (apparently) targeted murder.
Charlie Kirk was a sophistic, cruel, vicious, man, but his star (and the garish light of his ilk) has been fading recently.
Thinking at the moment about an actual play podcaster describing growing anxiety within his character as “coils of rope slowly tightening around his heart” and thinking that feels pretty real right now.

Nothing, *nothing*, justifies killing him, or robbing his kids of their dad.
We don’t know the identity or motive of the shooter but murder can *never* be the response to political disagreements.
They're openly calling to lock up every trans person by force. We need every ally to speak out forcefully against this because trans folks cannot do this on our own.

People need to understand just how openly genocidal the rhetoric on the far right is getting towards transgender people. They're openly talking about eradicating us and forcefully mass institutionalizing all trans people.
These are people with direct ties to the Trump administration.
