Remember his promise to be Dictator on Day 1? Remember his wishcasting of unleashing police for a day of extreme violence to warn against future protests? Remember his vow to go after his political enemies?

You think that was all in jest?

Republicans? They'll be cowering in a corner, half cheering him on, half terrorized. Trump will make sure nobody can stand up to him.

Each egregious move will be followed by another, and another. And by the time he gets around to pursuing his political enemies with the force of law, he will act with impunity.

Sure, Democrats will tsk tsk, wring their hands, clutch their pearls. But, they'll be powerless.

The larger view: Trump is signalling that he has democracy in his sights. He will tear down pillar after pillar of our norms until the last ember of the smoldering ruins is put out.

Remember, folks, these outrageous cabinet picks are an Opening Act for Trump. He is deliberately and systematically poking the eye of America by digging deep into his barrel of outlandish personalities who are an affront to our great tradition of White House transitions.

That’s the point. Trump wants loyalists to him AND Putin.

In other words, most Americans don’t want Trump to do policy. They just want the entertainment, more performative anger/resentment and excitement/chaos.

Turns out, Trump may want to rethink some of his election year promises like prosecuting political enemies, halting aid to Ukraine, firing federal workers who aren’t loyalists, imposing tariffs, pardoning Jan. 6 insurrectionists, getting rid of vaccines and even mass deportations.
