A good day to give thanks for fire and rescue personnel in Glasgow, and around the world

Around 152,000 people die every day on Earth on average, and it's a source of ongoing frustration to me that so far, Lindsey Graham hasn't been one of them.

The weekend warriors rushing to comment "Whoever did it should get 10 years off his sentence!!!" need to cop themselves on too. No, gobshite; the guy who did it was also a disgusting monster.

Tweet from Drop Site News:

Peter Beinart: if the United States and Israel had mot launched an attack on a country that poses no serious threat to them, those 180 schoolgirls would be alive today.

Matt Schlapp (interjecting): "They'd be alive in a burka ... this is a barbaric society."

"Suggesting targets and issuing precise location coordinates."

So the US regime deliberately bombed a school because the computer told them to?

Guilty verdict for US father of teenage school shooter Prosecutors say Colin Gray, 55, could have prevented his son from killing four people at a high school in Georgia in 2024.

Somehow not surprised to read that this is only the third time that a US school shooter's parent has been held criminally responsible for their kid's actions.

Bad Times at the El Royale incomplete mini-review:

Pros - a nice twisty-turny neo-noir plot (that you kind of have to take with a pinch of salt), if you're into that; a great cast.

Cons - this is a fuggin looooong-ass film. I'll have to finish it tomorrow (hence the incompleteness of this review).

If I'm true to form, I'll hem and haw about subscribing and fiscal responsibility and such and end up subscribing the next time I'm drunk.

Alan Shatter is a strident pro-Israel politician (using the most basic/non-contentious description of his position) and this position has caused him to say some silly things about Israel's critics. Bridget Laffan is a gobshite who shills for weapons manufacturing firms on the side.

04.03.2026 14:15 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Where Bridget differs from the likes of Ed Walsh is that if you questioned Ed about taxpayer money going missing, he'd counter by gurning in your face and demanding to know how much wealth you've personally created. Bridget tries to soothe you with bullshit about how "this was all just fields once."

Bridget Laffan is a dose, but that's hardly out of line with the flatulent, reactionary moneysuckles that have occupied the top positions in UL since its foundation. None of our Chancellors, Presidents etc. have exactly covered themselves in glory.

Nothing better than a 'fail' clip where someone whacks their head as they fall into water. Haha, Fionn tried backflipping off a pier and brained himself; now he's gone under and he might have a concussion. Gas! 🀣🀣🀣

It's astonishing. The Sambourne House is well worth a visit too, though I will admit that I was a bit unnerved by the flattened partridges 🫣

One of the rooms in Leighton House, where the filmed the interiors for Yhe Stranglers' "Golden Brown." There's a fountain in the middle of the floor, surrounded by Persian rugs on a tiled floor, and the walls are decorated with Arabic calligraphy and black lacquered wood. Not pictured: the huge domed ceiling overhead; the stuffed peacock; the shrieking ghost of Edward Said; Spandau Ballet.

Went to London on a weekend break/research trip, partly because a one-time prospective PhD supervisee was debuting his first play, and partly because (a) I offhandedly mentioned Marylebone as a location in a thing I now need to write a sequel to; and (b) I wanted to see Leighton House.

the US once again sending the message loud and clear: never negotiate, just get nukes. Never compromise, just get nukes. Never give in to sanctions, just get nukes.

Now that she's read it, I got some high praise indeed:

Mam: "It's not like one of your stories at all; it's like something you'd read in a book."

Me: ΰ²  _ ΰ²

Mam: "No, you know what I mean! It's just that I can't believe *you* made all that up."
