If you're patient enough to soldier through the first few hours, Naval Action is a really great game with no real alternative. The actual combat is the best age of sail naval combat in any game bar none, and for me at least it makes the early grind worth it

In the old days you could at least start fighting right out of the gate, and fighting was the only way to gain XP to rank up

Now you start with no money, no guns and no ammo, and your only way to get XP is through cargo missions that are incredibly tedious

Naval Action has always had a pretty boring first few hours unfortunately, just because you're barred from getting the nicer ships until you've leveled up your rank enough to hire enough crew

But you used to at least be able to get right to fighting, even if it was just with smaller ships

I genuinely have no idea why they changed this I'm going to be so real

That's the kind of shit that puts you in the Hague

Thankfully the in-game currency isn't bought with real world money, so it's not predatory in that sense

It just means you have to spend like 2-3 hours just grinding boring and tedious cargo delivery missions to earn enough money to actually start fighting

Namely they made ammunition and gunpowder required consumable materials that you have to stay stocked up on, and for newer players that don't have a lot of in-game currency it means the Action part of Naval Action isn't really possible

The devs dropped a pretty major update last year that completely wiped everyone's progress and changed the in-game economy to be much more grindy and tedious

Enjoying Naval Action despite the developers' best efforts to avoid this it seems
