Screenshot of an I'm a Scientist chat with a student and Karen E (a scientist).
Student: how did we evolve from apres to humans
Karen E: I don't think we evolved directly from modern-day apes to humans but from a common ancestor where we took different paths to get where we are today.
Student: Could you explain in a little more detail for me please
Karen E: If we could go back in time - you would see lots of different forms of both humans and apes as both species were evolving. If you go back far enough, there will be a single species that they both evolved from. Does that help?
Student: yes
Karen E: Glad to hear it! It's a really complicated subject.
Student: thank you
We don't tell scientists the age or ability of the students in their Chat. This avoids assumptions. Instead, they reply to students' questions at the level they were asked. Students are great at asking for more detail when they want it π¦§π§¬
