Could someone please help with “How do I change the data readings to normal measurements instead of the ***** french system?” 🤔 (wrong answers only)

Unfortunately, we cannot stop the camera from “improving” contrast (and we could not find out yet if it is possible at all). That could be a reason and it should be possible to verify it in the preview. We likely need “best practise”s for individual experiments.

Have you measured the revolution period with the camera stopwatch?

Perhaps a first time with an iDevice, now that cameras are supported. 🧡

The first link, “File:[…]” does indeed not work. We are now checking why it is there at all… (apparently, my brain blanked it out before)

At (at least) 100 Hz –leading to a “damping” factor 0.01 or less in the numerical integration algorithm– the individual contributions of each noisy data point are tiny, particularly compared to the “net” effects.

Numerical integration on noisy (and not perfectly calibrated) data is heavily unstable. It can be improved by feeding in knowledge of the kinematics, checking for offsets, etc

Our approach is (too) simple and that’s why it’s “hidden” in our wiki for the time being.

(I have just checked both, “Open in phyphox” and “Show the QR code”: they work for me… 🤔)

position, velocity, and acceleration vs time graphs of a plane taking off from the runway. The position is a concave up curve going from 0 to 1120 m, the velocity is a concave down curve going from 0 to 37 m/s, the acceleration is a noisy straight line with a negative slope starting at 2 m/s/s and ending at about 0.

Check out the Integrated Acceleration Tool in @phyphox.org. It calculates and graphs velocity and position data for each direction of acceleration. This is my takeoff from the Minneapolis airport Saturday. I stopped recording data just as the wheels lifted off the runway. #ITeachPhysics

I recorded this acceleration profile of a plane taking off using Phyphox. Green is left-right, blue is forward-backward, and yellow is up-down. Overall acceleration is shown in white.

The point where the traces separate, ~45s, is liftoff, when acceleration shufted from forward to up. #ITeachPhysics

“Mechanics” category in the phyphox main menu with the “Roll” entry not being greyed out.

Noticed the difference? After seven years the “Roll” experiment is back in version 1.2.0 on iOS.

On Android, it’s automagically replacing the beta. You could unsubscribe from the program if you don’t want to be part of the next release cycle.

On iOS, you need to manually install the App Store version – or you must in 84 days.

… and version 1.2.0 is rolling out on the App Store and on the Google Play Store: camera support, new UI elements, and much MUCH more (MORE!). We’ll cover new features over the next weeks …
