It always brings me joy to see people having fun where a highway once ran. That road through the centre of Utrecht (Netherlands) was such a mistake. Iβm still glad the canal came back.

Europeβs heatwave is not showing signs of breaking. We can no longer debate whether or not to make drastic changes.
Parisβ Place de Catalogne is a perfect example of how heat-generating road space can be replaced with an urban forest for water capture, shade and cooling in this formerly hard space.
A variation of the official UK no overtaking sign, replacing the car on the left with a person on a bike to indicate that along this stretch of road, it would be illegal to overtake anyone on a pedal cycle or ebike.
In addition to 20mph speed limits, the true way to unlock a massive network of safe cycle routes would be to prohibit overtaking of people on bikes on residential streets. While 20mph limits make streets feel safer, being closed passed remains as a barrier to many choosing to cycle instead of drive.
