PyPI and Shai-Hulud: Staying Secure Amid Emerging Threats - The Python Package Index Blog
Shai-Hulud is a great worm, not yet a snake. Attack on npm ecosystem may have implications for PyPI.
There's a nasty #OpenSource #SupplyChain worm going around named Shai-Hulud. It's also capable of exposing some projects' long-lived PyPI API Tokens. Read more on what's happening, and what you can do to protect your projects.

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.
Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

China's diesel trucks are shifting to electric. That could change global LNG and diesel demand
China is replacing its diesel trucks with electric models faster than expected, potentially reshaping global fuel demand and the future of heavy transport. In 2020, nearly all new trucks in China ran...
Last week I wrote a long piece on how oil demand destruction is likely higher than the consensus and I explained why that is likely. Electrification of trucking in China was a big reason.
I wrote the piece because there was no coverage of the issue.
Well good news! Now there is.

My team and I were miniaturized and injected into the bloodstream of a soviet defector in the hopes we could deploy the ship's microsurgery to clear a blood clot in his brain.
Unfortunately the Russians deployed their own nanonauts in an attempt to sabotage our mission. We took care of them, don't worry. Dr. Clark is wounded...might not make it. But we can still make the brain in time if we take a shortcut through the carotid artery. It should be noted in the log that Dr. Wells feels this is an unnecessary risk, I have registered her complaints as required by regulation, and we are pressing on. Wish us luck. Should be in by 11:15.

Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show
Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, and it internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day, company documents show.
When deceptionโs more profitable than honesty, users lose.
Internal documents suggest that Meta earns $3.5B(!) every 6 mo. from scam ads, revealing a deeper systemic problem: the economic incentive to tolerate โhigher legal riskโ content still outweighs any penalty. www.reuters.com/investigatio...

L'entreprise reconnaรฎt que ces publicitรฉs sont la source du tiers des arnaques aux USA.

Fascinating study, in line with the general unreliability of LMs at ToM reasoning I've seen.
I expect they'll be unreliable about other propositional attitudes (want, hope, expect, suspect, etc.), and suspect this is bc they're not trained on data that grounds this vocabulary.
