Do you ever make a game out of spite? I just had someone tell me I don’t know what I’m doing and decided to strip out all the juice and prove it’s fun at its core. So far so good!

Indeed. I’m going to try and add ideas from the Bard’s Tale Remaster‘s automapping. I think they handled teleports, darkness and spinners really well. Better than the Wizardry Remaster, but I think that one was a solid attempt too.

I feel like auto mapping is going to be expected, but I might offer a turn it off setting for people if they want it.

Ha. more I’m seeing lots of Ultima clones out there. Good ones too! Even not so good ones that are still fun!

I needed a break to reassess what I wanted to do. Bards Tale with better combat? Going to try some of that now.

Today’s struggle: for 40 years I’ve been working on getting my skills and resources to a point where I’m ready to make my dream game. Now that I am I realized that game isn’t what I want anymore.

Devastated to hear that @burgerbecky.bsky.social has lost her battle with cancer. I was lucky enough to be her roommate at KFest 2016 and was amazed by her knowledge and her vivaciousness! She will be deeply missed by all those her life touched. She is in Valhalla tonight!

So sad to hear. She will be so missed.
