I will say, his intro season (3) is surprisingly good. I hate The Boys comic with every fiber of my being (it’s the comic that almost got me to quit reading comics) and hate cynical superhero storytelling even more, but season 3 was…surprisingly a bop.

I’m also just struck about how perfect the title is — it never lied. this was always the ending. but I still wanted them to have the the triumphant win, of love being “enough”. the love is there!! but it’s not and never could be the panacea of society’s ills. a balm, maybe, but never the cure!!

that’s exactly it! it’s a story that can only be done in a transformative medium—it’s as much as our relationship with the story as the story itself. It would have a different impact in a wholly original work. there’s no expectation to upend, no left turn in a story when the right was never taken.

this one was so goddamn good. it felt as much of a subversion of the fanon as it is the canon. I respect the hell the commitment to the emotional reality of what going through that would do to a person. it was brutal, but it makes me appreciate the breadth fanfic can allow for.
