I find it interesting that the American is the only one who cares about individuality, while all the asian characters are pretty chill about the idea of a hive mind. Not saying it's a mistep - American exceptionalism might well be a major theme - but it's certainly notable.
Serious, is anyone else seeing this? There are some *weird* cultural issues going on in this show.

08.11.2025 00:19 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Haha, I'm generally not one to get into arguments online, but if I see someone making an *aggregiously* bad point then I might reply without liking, but that's pretty rare.
For the follows without interaction, I assume it's bots or engagement farmers.
Have you seen Pluribus yet, and what do you think??
07.11.2025 23:18 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Was not expecting Pluribus to get so, uh, political? so fast. Pretty compelling show.

07.11.2025 22:50 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Race Across the World could be interesting, particularly if they managed to get people very famous in the UK and have them race through regions where they're not at all known.
07.11.2025 21:50 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Have you seen Missing (Costa-Gavras, 1982)? That's pretty great too - really digs into the American complicity in the 1973 Chilean coup.
07.11.2025 21:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm looking forward to checking it out. I went through a phase of watching those kind of movies almost a year ago, for obvious reasons. Argentina 1985 (which I don't think is related, despite similar names and topics) is a lot less interesting. Very much an 'Oscars' movie. Hence the nod, I guess.
07.11.2025 21:30 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0If I comment on something *without* liking then it should absolutely be taken as a slight.
07.11.2025 21:26 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Oh, I enjoyed Chile 1976 - much better than Argentina 1985. Now I really need to check out The Official Story!
07.11.2025 21:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I watched the films in this double set earlier in the week. Both are great, but I was particularly impressed by Deadly Circuit. It's a kind of existential tragicomic noir and reminded me a lot of some recent Argentine films. If you liked La Flor or Trenque Lauquen you should seek it out!

Another classic by Malick. Two pretty great films by Claude Miller, and a subdued Chilean folk horror.
I was thinking the same thing. I guess in the circles they move in, being less attracted to pop stars as you get older isn't entirely normalised.
07.11.2025 20:26 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Nice! Always up for new work by Hรฉlรจne Cattet and Bruno Forzani.

A lego set of Toothless the dragon from the How To Train Your Dragon franchises. It's much a more cutsie version of the character than shown in any of the films. It's 784 pieces and is for ages 18+.
There seems to be some bizarre decision-making going on. My kid recently got into How To Train Your Dragon, and they do have a lego set for that - but it's an extremely cutsie, cartoonish set that's nevertheless designed for people over 18.

06.11.2025 09:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0No, if it were a random choice among serious candidates Mamdani would have got 33% - he got 1.5 times that. Spanberger only got 1.15x a random vote. Mamdani overperformed.
