Back to the actual and current Presidential candidates -with all the Jim Gavin shenanigans of the last 24 hours it may have not grabbed people’s attention that Heather Humphreys just threw trans people under the bus in response to a Grift dot ie reporters question! So there’s that! #aras25 #speirgorm

Maybe Steen voters will turn out and vote after all if this gets more wind in its sails.

And TΓ‘naiste? Very impressive!

But I agree, if you mention Taoiseach to anyone outside Ireland, they wouldn't have a clue.

I have seen some news outlets use the official title instead of PM.

Oh wellπŸ˜„

I know people call it PM to audiencs outside of Ireland, but I can't help twitch when I read it :)

The official title is Taoiseach (thee-shuck) in Irish, as prime minister in Irish is prΓomh-aire (preive-awrah).

We don't say the PM of Germany :) But Germany is Germany and Ireland is... smaller!

MicheΓ‘l Martin backed the wrong horse with Ger Gavin, is what plenty of FiannΓ‘ FΓ‘il members who will now say.

How different things would be had Billy Kelleher been nominated by the party.

How many spoilt votes will this result in?

Title: "NΓ ShionnΓ‘in served her sentence - surely she is allowed to rebuild her life?"

I want to clarify something – is it the view of the Taoiseach, and of commentators, that former prisoners should be denied opportunities to rebuild their lives away from violence or criminality, even after they have served their sentence?

Given her qualifications, Ursula NΓ ShionnΓ‘in was perfectly suited for the role of administrative support for a TD working on the Oireachtas Committee for the Irish language, and Catherine Connolly was in the right to give her a chance.

I think it is much more concerning if our Government thinks that prisoners such as NΓ ShionnΓ‘in should not be given the opportunity to rehabilitate when they demonstrate a willingness to do so.

As a former employee of the Irish Prison Service, that seems to go against everything that I was told during my training.

My earlier tweet about Catherine Connolly hiring a former prisoner, in the form of a letter to the Indo.

Hi. European here. I always tip, in Ireland, Europe, wherever. Being a waiter/waitress is a demanding job, regardless of what they're getting paid.

Tip early, tip often.

If we lower the threshold to be nominated in a presidential election, we're going to end up like an Irish European Parliament election, with over 20 random names on a ballot paper.

Just in case she makes it onto the ballot, it’s good to remind yourself who Maria Steen and the Iona Institute are - fundamentalist zealots who represent almost no one cos even most Catholics think they’re awful

A reminder: she is not a military or security chef for the EU or NATO. She has no role in whether such action should be taken or not.

I am very surprised that Marian Harkin did this, nominated Steen, but stated she wouldn't be voting for her.

A former MEP (2004 - 2019), she spent her entire time in the liberal group in the European Parliament.

Yet she nominated a right-wing candidate?
