I really liked the playlist on PixelFondue's channel where he does quick modeling exercises. Very nice to get familiar with different tools Plasticity has to offer. For more advanced stuff like surfacing I recommend checking out Kuechenmeister Swagger's channel πŸ‘

Great video, good tips all around, thanks! πŸ˜€ Can you share your take on building a "generalist" portfolio? I've seen opinions that for small studios, there will be more demand for someone who can do a lot of things as opposed to a very skilled but narrow focused specialist.

Finished.

M16A2 for Sven Co-op, I will be animating the first person animation for it too. (Ignore the texture filtering, I forgot to put it on Linear)

Protect complete! Some things I’d like to tweak but alas, projects are never done - they’re due!
I’m really proud of this, work has taken its pound of flesh from me this last year and I still managed to finish this in a few months. Now off to GDC!!! Catch me at the Vessel Forge Booth on Friday!

For this sight I was using ZBrush for polishing the edges, to get a realistic look and softening hard edges for texture baking later. It's a game art pipeline thing. It's also great for sculpting wear & tear, edge damages, etc.

Turned out really nice! Funny though how the magazine looks as if it does not belong there but it's accurate for that particular model πŸ˜†

spinny render of the aeromech weapon I did from Alex Senechal's 2d sketch, sub-d is pain but looking at the end result always makes it worth it #art #gamedev #concept

And of course you can also just do everything in Plasticity from the start. But sometimes it's easier and/or faster to do the blockout in polys, all depends on the object and your proficiency with different types of modeling. Use your strengths to your advantage. πŸ™‚

Deconstructing the shape into primitive forms it's made of allows for easier modeling. Key is getting good references, different angles help a lot with understanding plane- and form changes.

Somebody asked how to approach modeling this camera unit in CAD, mentioning having poly-modeling background. Tip: you can always blockout the model in any DCC and export it to Plasticity as a reference mesh.

This is my most recent personal project, which took me months to complete. It was during an extremely difficult time in my life, just last year.

I'm proud of how far it went, and it was satisfying to create something complex that wasn't tucked behind an NDA. Here's a quick Before and After :)

Some of my students asked about CAD modeling and I also see the questions online fairly often. So I made an info sheet and thought it might be useful, especially for people starting out with CAD modeling and hardsurface. πŸ™‚
