For the first time in the franchise's 142-year history, the Dodgers have won back-to-back championships in one of the greatest World Series of all time.

If you look at MLB history, the record suggests that it's not easy to win a World Series. The Yankees are the gold standard, having made the World Series on average one out of every 2.75 seasons and winning it all on average every 4 seasons. The other 29 franchises pale in comparison.

Regarding the Dodgers' prospects of repeating tonight as baseball champions for the first time ever, in my own lifetime only five teams have won consecutive World Series - the New York Yankees (3 times in 1961-62, 1977-78, 1998-2000), the Oakland A's (1972-74) and the Toronto Blue Jays (1992-93).

I said, "[T]he facts from 2008-2016 say otherwise. The Dodgers actually played in four NLCS during that stretch." They played in the 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2016 NLCS. They also played in the 2017 and 2018 NLCS. That's six times in eleven seasons. That's not the record of a shabby team.

Amen to that. And if my Dodgers fall short tonight or tomorrow night, well, "Wait'll next year." But until such time, for the next few hours I'll take solace in the late Yogi Berra's admonition, "It ain't over, 'til it's over." Because sometimes, dreams still do come true.
