ICE DOES NOT LOVE JUSTICE, BUT THEY LOVE MASSACHUSETTS COURTS. POLICE In 2025, federal immigration agents visited our courts over and over, resulting in over 250 kidnappings. That's almost 20% of all ICE detentions reported in the state, and probably an undercount.

WHY COURTHOUSES? ICE loves our courts because they make it easy for ICE to kidnap our neighbors. ICE isn't forbidden from our courts like they are in other states, and the only thing our courts require before they hand someone over to ICE in handcuffs is an "immigration detainer"— a document ICE writes for itself. This can happen before the person is ever convicted of a crime, or even after the charges are dismissed.

WHAT A COURT ABDUCTION LOOKS LIKE: ICE learns someone they've targeted for deportation is going to be at a courthouse, as a defendant, witness, or family member ICE comes to the courthouse and watches for their target, intimidating vulnerable people seeking justice Their target, one of our neighbors, is kidnapped in the lobby or from the street outside or, if they were in state custody but should be released by the Court, gets handed to ICE directly by court officers.

This is a great overview from LUCE about how ICE is targeting immigrants in Massachusetts courtrooms. I have seen this firsthand and it's critical that we stop it.

This is pretty good, but the phone info is outdated. B/c of new tech, if you bring your phone, your data can be retrieved and used against you. It’s best to leave it behind, or at least off until needed.

For your safety, in case gas is thrown, avoid wearing makeup and bring bottled water and other first aid materials in a bag.

Wear masks, and if you think gas is likely, safety goggles.

Understand that arrests can happen, so look into local orgs (bail funds) before going.

There are a lot of different takes, and some of this may be scary to hear but is important:
- write important numbers on your arm, and leave your phone behind if you can (turn it off until needed if you bring it)
- wear nondescript clothing but don’t wear all black
- look at the route beforehand

Many of our neighbors in Minneapolis are being targeted based on the color of their skin, their accent, or their country of origin. From a healthcare standpoint, this is leading to very scary outcomes, as patients are terrified to leave home and are foregoing necessary care in an effort to stay safe. For moms and babies, medical professionals scramble to meet these needs and to ensure patient safety. As neighbors and community members, we want to ensure these moms and babies have their needs met in terms of supplies, personal care items, and infant and toddler items. While it's a far cry from a baby shower, we are doing our best to ensure that our neighboring mamas have what they need in times of massive distress. All items purchased on this list will be delivered to me and then immediately sent out into the community for maximum impact. On behalf of all the mama and baby teams, we so appreciate your love and generosity.

This is great advice. Sometimes I feel like comics are moreso a composition game than a drawing game, especially since the reader's eye is spending, at max, 10 seconds on each panel. Even if you're not yet comfortable drawing full bodies all the time, push yourself to do so!
