An update on AIR's IPEDS Training Program AIR has received official confirmation that our subcontract for the IPEDS training program will not be renewed for the 2025–26 data collection cycle. This news is deeply disappointing.

Huge blow to the IR community - AIR was informed that their contract to provide free IPEDS training has been cancelled.

It shows that the trend in share of Black students for all institutions drops slightly in 2024 but that is being driven by institutions that used to consider race in admissions, which had a sizeable drop. In fact, the share of students who are Black for institutions that used to consider race is the lowest it's been in a decade in 2024.

The figures from this are very dope because they split institutions by whether they reported previously considering race in admissions and you see a clear difference. The share of students who are Black in 2024, at institutions that previously used race, is the lowest it's been in a decade.

Been helping the folks at CBS news think through admissions data in a post-sffa world. They collected the largest dataset so far of uni's fall 2024 enrollment by race (and standardized it). Caveat caveat caveat, the clearest trend is:

This kicker is the whole ball game. This is why we cannot rely solely on talking about the ROI of universities to explain its value. Why we have to actually talk about the ways higher ed can be an active force for cultural uplift. That integration is one of the raisons d'être of US higher ed.
