I would have absolutely assumed this was a common knowledge phrase with totally established roots in the language! So it's a line not many people know, with no back story, that only makes #57 in the hit parade of insults. I find all this hard to take in...

Is this the case? I can't ever recall Cillian O'Connor being described as anything but essential to Mayo. And routinely put in among the best forwards they ever had. Maybe I'm missing a trick here...

The insanely epic History of Rock Music in 500 Songs podcast (it's taken 6 yrs to reach #177)😓) threw up this gem. I only knew Rockin Around the Xmas Tree, but in the 1960s only Elvis, the Beatles and Ray Charles sold more singles in the US than Brenda Lee.
