I'd say that he (or whoever is writing such acts) /does/ know - because diminishing press and internet freedoms elsewhere in the world will presumably lead to resignation and compliance within U.S. borders. Making the world safe for authoritarianism, not democracy.

Organisms naturally try To rid themselves of parasites once sensed By pains, by waning strength, by ear or eye Perceived - and in that struggle grow incensed When fattening worms insidiously grow And glut themselves on what was never theirs By any right - entrenching, laying low Enough - just low enough - in self-dug lairs As to stay safe, as just too hard to reach Or flush them out without a world of pain And damage to the whole. Could we but teach Ourselves, with all our skills and tools and brain, To be as wise as nature, and to fight Concertedly against ill-gotten might?
