We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

This is why you don’t see these crimes so much with city kids. My city kid plays with other kids so often. We just returned from an evening picnic in Prospect Park with 5 other families. Offline rules.

Unfortunately there are few incentives and reminders for this. Instead of relying on human consistency we can design systems that reduce human error.

Enforcement of existing traffic laws would be an amazing improvement too.

You can blame the deliverista, you can blame the double parker, but the real blame lies with this city which treats protected bike lanes like the rarest of jewels to be passed out in paltry portions. All bike lanes should be protected. There’s no excuse.

Just passed a fatal accident at 3rd & St Marks in Brooklyn. A bystander told me a deliverista was riding around a car that was double parked when the driver doored him, sending him over his handlebars to be crushed by an oncoming truck.

If we had protected bike lanes this wouldn’t happen.

Judging by the shamefully opportunistic & politicizing rhetoric of some rightwingers on Twitter, & their cynical use of Charlie Kirk’s horrific murder for political point scoring, it’s almost as if Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman wasn’t murdered by a Trump-voting MAGA maniac just 12 weeks ago.

Prediction: Charlie Kirk will lie in state.
