Many thanks to @serena-t.bsky.social for organizing this inspiring day. Meeting so many wonderful new scholars & hearing about their cutting-edge work was an absolute tonic for the weary academic soul. I am delighted to report that our discipline is in very good hands!

#SwiftieSunday- a trio of posts of Taylor album covers and our Pre-Raphaelite pairings.

Taylor Swift’s first track on ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ is ‘Fate of Ophelia,’ and with this cover we can see the Millais and Pre-Raphaelite references clearly.

🖼️ ‘Ophelia’, John Everett Millais, 1851-52, Tate.

From one poet to another, we think Christina Rossetti and Taylor Swift would get along, have lots of feminist thoughts to share and of course a lengthy discussion of her ‘Tortured Poets Department’ album.

🖼️ ‘Christina Rossetti in a Rage’, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Wightwick Manor & Gardens.

#SwiftieSunday- a trio of Taylor album covers posts and our Pre-Raphaelite pairings.

The depiction of Christina in a rage, due to a review of her poetry in The Times, works well with Taylor’s ‘Reputation’ album and its themes of scrutiny and press attention on women.

Yes, we did include her name on our other platforms, just due to the length of the text on this app we had to take it out, but thanks for correcting us.

Born Louisa Ruth Maynard, she made her London debut in 1855 at the Strand Theatre. She eventually became the manager of the St James’s Theatre, London, in 1864 for four years, and hired the then little-known Henry Irving as her leading man and assistant stage manager at the theatre.

Today’s Art UK #OnlineArtExchange theme is film and cinema, so we are raising the red velvet curtain on the Victorian actress Louisa Ruth Herbert (1831-1921).

An actress and manager, she was also a model for Dante Gabriel Rossetti and sat for him often between 1858 and 1860.

#ThursdayTrees, Pre-Raphaelite arboreal artworks.

We are celebrating trees as the Woodland Trust describes them as ‘the ultimate multi-taskers in the fight against climate change.’ The UK’s woodlands store one billion tonnes of carbon in trees, dead wood, leaf litter and soil!

3. 🖼️ I love everything about William Morris, and I love this poem, from The Earthly Paradise. The speaker is almost Morris, who was of course never idle, and this verse tells you the things poetry can’t do-

‘Of Heaven or Hell I have no power to sing,
I cannot ease the burden of your fears, ’
