Rowling could've lived in her castle and tweeted "Hagrid wants you to brush your teeth and have a happy St. Swithin's Day!" a few times a year and HP would've had the same legacy as Pooh or Middle-earth, but she consciously chose Evil For Evil's Sake like a badly written children's fantasy villain

Back in the day (~2008-2019) I could go to any multi fandom con, even one that didn’t have a huge cosplay component, tack up a sign that said “Hogwarts Alumni Reunion” and reliably get dozens of people in Hogwarts robes showing up. The diehards have quit, the casuals moved on.

When I began working in book sales in 1999, you could not pay the average American teenager enough to read a book. By the time I left B&N in 2006, kids were among our best and most voracious customers.

I will never forgive Rowling for fucking up that legacy.

She killed her own fandom.

In 2019 you would’ve seen roving packs of folks in Hogwarts robes, multiple Snapes, probably even multiple Dark Lords, Malfoys, and house elves. And you would’ve seen fan art in artist alley, prints, tshirts, buttons etc. Now that’s all GONE. I didn’t see a single thing anywhere.

So I had a walk around the very crowded exhibit hall at FanExpo Boston. There is, as expected, sooooo much cosplay. Star Wars, One Piece, Walking Dead, Disney, superheroes. You name it. Which makes it notable what is missing. Haven’t seen a single Harry Potter robe, tie, or wand.

Viv talks about that post Brandon made about recording for the end of S3, and how it's one of the heaviest moments of the show (Fucking kill me), and how that episode at the end of S3 required Brandon to really push himself to the limits (please fucking stop).

Brandon states that he loves that episode, he thinks it's going to be great- but states that- that session in particular is one of the hardest things he has ever had to put himself through. (What the actual fuck is happening at the end of Season 3?)
