Statement on Rotunda Hospital Remaining in Parnell Square accompanied by an RTÉ headline Government drops plan to move Rotunda to Connolly Hospital

As a board member of the hospital, I welcome the decision by Government to drop the planned relocation of the Rotunda to Connolly hospital. The Rotunda has been at the heart of Dublin City for over 280 years, and is a key part of the inner city's built and social heritage. Women deserve quality healthcare, in a hospital that is up to the highest standards. A new planning application must be submitted as soon as possible for the critical care unit expansion, so that mothers and new born babies can receive the care they deserve in an appropriate, fit for purpose setting.

Great news! As a board member I’m delighted to see this hospital remain a part of our community, where it has been for literal centuries.

The latest NTA report for the Cork Metropolitan Area shows 83% support reducing speed limits to 30km/h in built-up areas.

I put forward a motion in January calling for the most ambitious possible 30km/h speed zones across Cork City.

Safer streets. Safer children. Strong public backing.

We've had a "housing emergency" declared since 2018.

Since then we've seen what genuine emergency responses look like — during the pandemic and during the Ukrainian refugee emergencies.

Normal laws were set aside, emergency measures were swept in. Emergency measures like we need now for housing.

I cannot help but think of families dropping daughters to school at St Brendan's GNS in the Glen — the same distance from the military base in Cork as the primary school in Minab.

The people killed in the US/Israeli bombing of the school is now counted at 148, mostly girls between 7–12 years old.
