Using this mostly for birds and other wildlife, keen birder, slight knowledge of other groups of creatures.
Or right beach at the wrong time.
06.10.2025 12:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Inspired by finds elsewhere, we gave Pilmore Strand a look for passerines yesterday. Nothing of note, but it was nice to get a spread tail photo of this Rock Pipit.

30.09.2025 11:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The first Irish record was of a bird trapped and ringed at Ballyvergan in east Cork in the early 1990s.
29.09.2025 21:12 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Is it too embarrassing to admit that I've never seen one anywhere in the world...? Cracking bird!
28.09.2025 22:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0'Sinensis-type' Cormorant at Tivoli, Cork city today at close range. Birds showing characters of this taxon appear to be not too infrequent these days, but it's always a pleasure to see one well.
28.09.2025 22:40 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I tend to agree. He was a promising writer but lacked the experience to be as effective a script editor as he could have been, especially given that he and JNT clearly struggled to work together.
26.09.2025 21:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In addition to the vaguely Biblical Dalek story names in the 80s, this one always reminds me of the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. @pljquinn.bsky.social will know what I'm on about.

26.09.2025 15:47 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Contrary to the immaculate juvenile plumage of the Little Stint, these 1CY Dunlins, also at Ballycotton yesterday, show how the species often begins its post-juvenile moult much earlier. Note the presence of plain grey second generation coverts, only 1-2 on the first bird but several on the second.

20.09.2025 13:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nice views of waders at Ballycotton today, lots of birds to look at. Nothing too unusual, about 8 juvenile Curlew Sandpipers and 3 juvenile Little Stints were the most notable. Some photos of the latter here.

18.09.2025 17:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No Leela, because the Doctor knew she was on Gallifrey and wanted his duplicate to have no knowledge of her, so as to tip the Time Lords off that something was wrong. That, or the Superfan forgot!!

18.09.2025 11:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A Common Crane briefly visited the east end of the island & the search to find it produced a rarity for Ireland; a Honey Buzzard in off the sea headed along the east coast. Few grounded migrants today but still a couple of Spotted and a single Pied Flycatcher at Cotter's garden. Photo today's HB
