1.) try turning steering wheel (I had the same problem you have with access and roommate came out after an hour and suggested that and it worked immediately.

He was very happy because I was curry combing his belly and rear legs. He's itchy because his Cushing's syndrome means he hasn't fully shed out where I didn't clip him in the spring. Lesson learned... And still might do it this weekend.
