I could be wrong though. Among other things, I am too lazy to figure out if copyright registration and renewal and such apply here.

Wikipedia says Sinclair died in 1951, so my cynical guess here is that the copyright on the original expired and someone wanted to put out a version that they could claim a new copyright on.

Perhaps, but I suspect the discount department store part was also pretty useful.

I haven't lived in Rupert since that location held a Zellers, though, so I could certainly be wrong. I suppose Amazon has probably taken over a lot of the more affordable clothing & home goods market.

It's getting harder and harder to deny that AGI is a near certainty. This kind of rapid expansion, this level of investment and infrastructural shift, this amount of *risk* - it doesn't happen without astronomical reward. The other day I saw a big barn, which can only mean one thing: giant horses

an appropriate response to your product killing a child after months of psychological manipulation and torture is to take the product off the market before it kills again and the fact that this isn’t universally accepted right now is incredibly frightening

the thing about trans rights is that we fight the civil rights issues of our time. nazi chuds have made this the issue of our time.

it's not more *important* than other civil rights issues, but it is the battleground of the moment, and we have to meet the moment to support everyone's rights.

Theory: the one on the left uses contrast to draw the eye to the specific tombstone near the centre of the bottom edge, and that makes the salute more impactful by making it clearer what he's saluting.

Update 2 on the Migration to Ghost: What to Do if You Weren't Automatically Migrated Hello to everyone who is still reading this!

So I ran into some technical issue with the automated migration from Substack to Ghost, and now all I can do is ask those affected--about 200 people--to please subscribe to The Bugbear Dispatch on Ghost once I shut down paid subscriptions on Substack

I want to say it's easier than it used to be, but although that's mostly true, I did fix an audio issue by creating a text config file using instructions from a forum post just this past week.

If I understand correctly, this petition is to have the question discussed in the legislature, rather than to make it a referendum question.

Wearyingly frequently necessary reminder that "social darwinism" or anything else that equates notions of intelligence with "fitness to live" is just ableist eugenicist bullshit derived from a fascist-minded misapplication of darwinism, no matter how clever and snarky and cool you think you're being

Never forgive men for treating programming as a meaningless thing your secretary did while women were inventing and developing the field, then, once they realized it was going to be important, shoving women out of it and claiming only Male Logic Brains could perform it.

Here is my take on takeout/cooking discourse:

It is none of my fucking business how other people get food into their bodies because I do not know their lives, circumstances, limitations, or practical realities.

But there should be more good, affordable options and the choices suck.

How many children does Israel have to blow up, shoot, and starve to death before Canada stops making disappointed statements and actually takes any concrete action?

This isn't a rhetorical question @mark-carney.bsky.social, this is a question that has a real numerical answer only you can give.

We've had millennia of stories with fae, Jinn and other bargainers that teach it is impossible to word a wish such there will be no catches, costs or deceptions only to have this many people be like "the fawning, lying, imitating, extraction machine is amazing if you word your prompts the right way"

It's actually hard to chill out knowing we issued a similar statement TWO MONTHS AGO warning that Israel must let humanitarian aid flow.

TWO MONTHS LATER and all we can manage is a strongly worded finger wagging? What the fuck is wrong with us?

This cowardice is a permanent stain on our country.

On the video call, tensions rose. At one point, Lidia Morawska, a revered atmospheric physicist who had arranged the meeting, tried to explain how far infectious particles of different sizes could potentially travel. One of the WHO experts abruptly cut her off, telling her she was wrong, Marr recalls. His rudeness shocked her. β€œYou just don’t argue with Lidia about physics,” she says.

Morawska had spent more than two decades advising a different branch of the WHO on the impacts of air pollution. When it came to flecks of soot and ash belched out by smokestacks and tailpipes, the organization readily accepted the physics she was describingβ€”that particles of many sizes can hang aloft, travel far, and be inhaled. Now, though, the WHO’s advisers seemed to be saying those same laws didn’t apply to virus-laced respiratory particles. To them, the word airborne only applied to particles smaller than 5 microns. Trapped in their group-specific jargon, the two camps on Zoom literally couldn’t understand one another.

Happy International Women's Day!

A reminder that this specific screwup has now killed ~25 million people.

A world that allows an influential, entitled, ignorant man to just shout down a smarter and more knowledgeable woman πŸ‘‰can literally kill you.πŸ‘ˆ

This is the stitch to drop

As far as fixing it, because it's only a couple rows back, you could just drop the stitch when you get to it and try to work the extra yarn into the neighbouring stitches. It might not end up invisible but it will be less noticeable than the hole.

15.07.2025 20:45 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

The hole looks like a yarn over, i.e. the yarn got wrapped around your right needle an extra time. This makes a new stitch and a little lacy hole.

It looks to me like the stitch above it may be twisted. Possibly you dropped it and then things got a bit mixed up when you were picking it back up.
