Upon the announcement of the Steam Machine's slated 2026 launch, I didn't spot coverage that matched Chris'. He stepped back and pulled all the key elements together, revealing a grand narrative that was easy to grasp.

One of my favorite segments covered the history of Valve, the Steam Machine, and Gabe Newell's efforts to tear down Sony and Microsoft's walled gardens and make gaming (and computing?) more accessible to all. It might mean that we finally, finally enter the Year of Linux!

This is the kind of community work that doesn't get written about. It happens in the background. It's what I think people mean when they describe "social infrastructure." Many in SF's Tenderloin are sad to see @michaelbenvuong.bsky.social go, but they're also excited about what's next for him.

Also is there a silver lining here? If the demos believes in government and wants it to work, wouldn't that explain this aversion to weak, ineffective Dems? At least the Repubs can push things through, get them done?

Dems are both more "competent" and "ineffective" than Repubs? Make sense of that!

There was plenty serious, dark, scary about Resident Evil that he didn't tap into, and it felt like a real loss. Maybe he accessed it in later installments, but by then I was burned.

I think he understands certain elements of what makes this series great. And/or the elements that he's best at translating to screen.

I'm limited to analyzing him based on the early movies, and my younger brain's view of them.
