No one, and I do mean no one- should ever get excited as I do about spreadsheets.

Shout out to my guy Sean who taught me how to do conditional formatting based on dates for reagents expiry when I worked on the chemistry bench for a year post grad. You created a monster, and showed me the light.

I have a killer mitochondria tattoo, so she’s not wrong.

I pick up the phone and dial my husband’s classroom who DIES laughing too. I tell him to make sure he gets her absences fixed because she’s been answering to someone else’s name.

And that kids, is why I would never be in leadership 🤣

I tell her, I appreciate her letting me do my thing, but she’s got the wrong Byrd on the wrong hallway. I tell her this is why I start class the first couple days with “Hey, I’m the Biology Byrd” to make sure kids are in the right place, and she said I could tell you liked science by the tattoos

I immediately burst into laughter. I mean, tears are pretty close to streaming down my face. Kid tries to console me and said “you seem like you are good at science so I just listened”

She was scheduled for my HUSBAND’S class, US History, NOT BIOLOGY, a class she sat in for a WEEK.

They’re 100% right. I don’t see a single one of my courses. I asked if she had her schedule changed recently, but she said no.

She then says “yeah this is my 4th block, but honestly you’ve been teaching the wrong class for the last 4 days but I didn’t want to offend you so I didn’t say anything”

I also explicitly say: “hey kid, if I don’t call your name- let me know!” This happened to a student and I was able to figure out where they belonged. No biggie.

Well today, one kid comes up to me and tells me they’re not in my Schoology. I ask them to pull it up so I can look.

It was a Gizmo- we love explore learning in 612.

Anywho, I posted the join link and class code in Schoology (our LMS) and was helping kids get synced and whatnot, after taking attendance— very important to the story.

On day one of class I ask kids to correct my pronunciation, nicknames, whatever

Buckle up, buttercup. It’s time for a great, fantastic even, education story today.

We’re on day 5 of a new semester. I teach biology and utilize an interactive notebook in class (sorry trees)

My kids have their first quiz tomorrow, so we had one last assignment pertaining to cell organelles

In a hilarious turn of small town events: we were out for breakfast at the local Huddle House- my husband says “oh one of my students is over there and gave me the stink eye”

He walked by as we were leaving and specifically told me hi, which I returned because I teach him too 😂
