It can be especially annoying because it just plays into the idea other monster games are trying to be Pokémon which is unfair and somewhat insulting.

to play devil's advocate, some comparison between games in the same genre is inevitable and calling things "X killer" is partly a product of the controversy hungry era of the internet we're currently in. "thing is good" gets less clicks than "other thing sucks". but I agree with your overall point

Why do we have to call games "[franchise] killers"? I don't get why one franchise has to kill every other one in the genre. Why can't games like Pokémon, Cassette Beasts, etc. stand on their own without having to be compared?
