3/n it was so prevalent that the school ( in Harringay ) used to write to applicants that their child would be withdrawn from school if circumstances were found to be false . So stop demonising parents who at least are being honest rather than cheating the system to the detriment of other kids

I speak from experience as I lost a sale to a family once they saw we were out of catchment by 50m that year . They paid over the odds for a smaller house even closer to a school . Other parents moved mum and child in with relatives or rented to be in catchment . 2/n

However the fact is that parents pay over the odds to buy houses in catchment of good schools which pushes other kids out who have less affluent parents . And they do it to get a subsidised state eduction rather than pay fees ( now with VAT ) . 1/n
