Because I sure struggle to!

I am genuinely shocked by how actively, materially damaging the actions of our current Labour government are. They're just going out there and actually implementing all of the evil things that the Tories said they were going to do but were too incompetent to. How do they sleep at night?

Whenever the US government posts something about "UFOs are real I guess" for the 100th time to distract from Trump doing something insane, I'm just reminded that if Mulder and Scully were real people, they'd have probably got the Epstein client list released by now

Anyways, mildly aimless ramble over. Side note that this does not apply at all to Ti West as Ti West has made a lot of films that people like, he's just got his wider recognition a little later than most.

(For the record I like when filmmakers are sick and twisted, I just like when, y'know... there's stuff in their craft that people actually want to talk about and celebrate and discuss beyond how "genius" they are as artists)

Was so happy when SINNERS came out because then people were posting all sorts of things about what made the movie cool and why it spoke to them rather than just "isn't this director dude sick and twisted? Doesn't he have a twisted genius mind?" ad nauseum

This isn't about one person in particular, by the way, just a phenomenon I've noticed in the way people talk about a lot of modern horror (and where some seem to exclusively focus their attention and praise)

I don't like being negative or complaining on the tl but it's been a frustrating phenomenon to me. People instantly losing their minds over a "cinematic genius" who has only made one film that people thought was kinda neat whilst Alice Maio Mackay makes 6 cool films and people ignore her

I say this not to start discourse but rather because I've been thinking it over the past couple of days and needed to exorcise it

White cishet men will make one horror film that people kinda like and will immediately be hailed as a "master of horror"

I'll always be up for doing write-ups on whatever new thing Alice makes because her films are just so inherently cool in their very existence. And also they're cool in practice as well.

THE SADNESS is basically as good a CROSSED adaptation as you could hope for, so I'm curious as to how this will go / be different from that!
