25.11.2025 18:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ah, got it, that makes sense. Honestly I haven't been paying much attention to the rise of romantasy (just not my thing) so am admittedly sketchy on the details.
Though I will add that YA is famous for romance novels with [insert genre here] trappings... YA SF, lookin' at you...
We went from, "You could just google it," to "I can't find anything on Google anymore." All because they found that giving inaccurate results meant we all clicked on more links & that meant more ad revenue. So stupid.

25.11.2025 17:32 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Oh interesting I don't remember that, will have to ask her about that part too!
25.11.2025 17:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'll have to see if D. remembers. Think that might've been after I moved out of NYC, when we started going only if there was a Triple Crown contender, so quite possible we skipped it that year...
25.11.2025 15:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I bet you're right on ALL of this. And not just for Canadian orgs, but US orgs and media types as well.
25.11.2025 15:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also, I think YA does horror-romance all the time (i.e. the majority of YA horror novels include a lot of romance).
OK, now I'm reading over my own comment and wondering if it's true or I'm exaggerating, lol. But I'm gonna post it anyway...
Yours is the only kind of romance I could really appreciate lol...
25.11.2025 15:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Agree, the surprise is just part of the fun! π
(And I can't even imagine how much work it must be to pull these polls together!)

Have only seen her once, but she was AMAZING!
25.11.2025 15:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Springsteen, Stones, Pretenders, Kinks, Iggy Pop. Bowie of course (RIP). And I've been lucky the times I've seen GnR (as I know they have historically NOT been consistent lol).
A less obvious choice: while I only saw him once, I was surprised by how fantastic Howard Jones is live!
Some Girls for sure.
25.11.2025 15:24 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Absolutely. This album is packed with classics.
25.11.2025 15:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Did you or we attend that year? For some reason I seem to recall watching it on TV (but could be wrong!)
25.11.2025 15:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Aw, loved that filly! π₯
Watching her beat Curlin in the Belmont is an all time highlight of my race-viewing life.

"Holy shit, look at me, I'm doing something that just a year or so ago I found really hard and stressful and confusing, but it's second nature now."
Generative AI deliberately removes this, entirely, from learning.
Definitely enjoyed it, thanks for all your work on these!!!
25.11.2025 14:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This was my first thought when I saw this. He's dumb enough.
25.11.2025 14:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh forgot to mention Strange Days which is also great of course (def. NOT one I forgot!).
Basically I'm surprised that Waiting for the Sun and Five to One (and Roadhouse Blues, and one or two others) didn't rank higher than Peace Frog and Crystal Ship. But these votes are always interesting!
Land Ho is a fun one! And of course WFTS is a classic. I really like End of the Night but yeah I wouldn't expect it to be everyone's taste lol.
I'd sort of forgotten about the other two and probably skimmed past them on the lists. I really need to relisten to all my Doors albums; it's been a while.

Germany had like, 150 years of being considered the world's best place to do science and math.
Hitler shot that reputation in the face literally the moment he came to power.
Five to One and People Are Strange are the top faves I thought might make it farther.
Also 20th Century Fox and Not to Touch the Earth.
The ones I figured would get knocked out quickly are Spanish Caravan, the WASP, and Wintertime Love, probably others I'm forgetting...
What were yours?
The only thing I really remember about it is that I wasn't convinced by the Harrison Ford/Anne Heche romance. π
