Very tricksy! Got it from half the wordplay + definition then had to work backwards to figure out the last part.

Inclusive exclusions?!

That took me a while. First half of the wordplay a bit of a stretch!

Every Child Achieving and Thriving - It happens in the Curriculum What the new Schools White Paper really means for curriculum

Everyone is talking about the structures in the new schools white paper.

But what if the real story is curriculum?

In my latest piece I argue Every Child Achieving and Thriving is fundamentally a curriculum and pedagogy document, not just a reform plan.

See you there for some cryptic chat! (Hopefully will actually make it this year)

I’ll be there. Probably talking about supporting SEND students in some way.

It’s always a great event. And it’s in the London which is easy for everyone to get to, right?

Opening the closed circle: why being wrong helps us find out what's right Falsifiability, pseudoscience and why "it works for me" is a pedagogical dead end

It’s not good enough to say β€œit works for me”. How do you know? What are the criteria by which you’d change your mind? If there are none, you have insulated yourself from reality.

What a question @teachertapp My wife & I both work in the same school. Whether or not that’s a romantic relationship - probably best ask her…

Would love to but can't make this one, I'm afraid. Will get there one day, always looks like a great day.

Planning to be at #rEDEastAnglia though!

1. All that she wants. Ace of Base
2. Play dead. Bjork
3. My favourite game. The Cardigans
4. 7 years. Lukas Graham
5. A higher place. Royksopp

#FridayFive has gone Scandi!

I'm 'enjoying' how 'literally' has come to mean the exact opposite. A student said the other day "I literally died."

My old 6th form! Would love to see what the place is like now, that all sounds very different from when I was there (96-98!)

Not wild about the definition but have to admire the wordplay/surface here!

11.02.2026 08:29 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Clever, but more annoying

10.02.2026 20:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Right, got it with a couple of hints. Wordplay not that tricky really but that definition totally threw me!

10.02.2026 20:08 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think that probably was true (certainly my school experience) but we’ve now cottoned onto the idea that doing regular β€˜revision’ (ie retrieval) throughout the year is generally a whole lot more effective than just cramming in the last couple of weeks before exams!

10.02.2026 19:54 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, I’d agree with that, mostly. But my 5 yo loves doing her β€˜homework’ such as it is. Just this week she was given a little book to practice writing in & she couldn’t wait to start doing it as soon as she got home!

10.02.2026 19:52 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Agreed. And I’m not sure how accurately the article fully represents the research. @drcastelino.bsky.social does a great job reviewing the literature on this in her book & I’m pretty sure the conclusions are more positive in terms of the benefits of homework (albeit with lots of caveats)
