Join the library team THIS FRIDAY, July 25, 11 am-12 pm in the Pine Grove for Community Reading Hour! We'll have snacks, drinks, extra blankets and chairs (or BYO), and books that you can check out (plus free giveaways for a lucky few!).

Rain location: Cup & Chaucer in Van Wylen.

We’ve got some fresh summer reading recommendations brought to you by the Van Wylen Library staff! Dystopian sci-fi, romance, nature writing, historical murder mysteries – we’ve got a little something for everyone, so grab a good book and soak up the sun!

The Nature Writing display on the second floor features essays, memoirs, and nonfiction about humanity’s relationship with the natural world. From classics like Walden to graphic novels about the Hidden Life of Trees, these books are perfect for reading outdoors this summer!

Image of a note from Prism: This pride month, we are sharing the stories of queer authors. Representation is important as people learn to empathize through reading. When you're in a picture being taken, the first thing you do when you see it is try to find yourself. The same is true for books and media. In our display, we hope to highlight stories in which Hope's queer community can see themselves and Hope's allies can learn from. This display features fiction, young adult, poetry, memoir, history, classics and graphic novels all written by people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Check out this display created by Prism, Hope’s LGBTQ+ student group, in celebration of Pride Month! “More Pride & Less Prejudice” features books by queer authors and quotes about their lived experiences. It’s a great way to #readtherainbow this June.

🎓Celebrating Digital Media Lab Assistant Haneul Seo’s Graduation! Haneul’s favorite part about working at the library was “My favorite part of working at the library was meeting new people! I loved helping people coming to the remodeled DML! ”

She shared, “My favorite part has been being able to grow and develop new research skills. This has helped me with academic and professional growth. Getting to help others find the right information is fulfilling.” Post-graduation, Neri will be researching and applying to physician assistant school!

🎓Big congratulations to Circulation Assistant Anna L. Byham on her graduation! 🌟 "There are so many favorite parts to working at the library! I get to work alongside my best friend, Gabby, chat with Heidi and Allison and Jessica in the mornings, and see Jaz & Co.’s shenanigans on a frequent basis.

I’m always proud to sport the Van Wylen Library name!" Mahleija will be working in a social work capacity before getting her masters degree.

Working at the library was an amazing experience all around, and I am so sad to be graduating this May and leaving the library community! After graduation, I am planning on attending graduate school to pursue a career in archiving and library sciences!!” 📚✨

I love that I got to work with so many amazing individuals who I may have never gotten the chance to meet otherwise, and I have loved learning more about collegiate level libraries and archives.

She shared, “my favorite part about working at the library has been the amazing faculty, staff, and students I have gotten to meet who have helped me grow as a student, employee, and person, as well as deepening my appreciation for knowledge and education.
