East Asian aerosol cleanup has likely contributed to the recent acceleration in global warming - Communications Earth & Environment Restrictions of atmospheric aerosol and precursor emissions in East Asia have contributed to the observed global surface warming acceleration since 2010, according to Earth System Model simulations is...

New article published today by my colleague @bjornsamset.bsky.social in Nature Comms: Earth and Environment. Evidence from eight Earth System Models that the reduction in East Asia's (primarily China's) air pollution is consistent with the sharper growth in warming.

UN-Backed Study Highlights How Tracking Ocean Giants Advances MarineΒ Conservation A groundbreaking global initiative, known as MegaMove, has brought together nearly 400 scientists from over 50 countries in an unprecedented effort to map the space use of more than 110 species of marine megafauna. This collective endeavor, harnessing decades of sophisticated animal tracking data, represents the most extensive attempt to date to identify critical habitats and migratory corridors that these iconic ocean giants depend upon.

Major budget cuts proposed for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration The agency forecasts weather, manages fisheries, and researches the world's oceans, atmosphere, and climate. The proposed budget cuts would slash the climate work entirely.

If the planned cuts to NOAA go through it will be devastating for climate and fisheries science, both in the US & globally www.npr.org/2025/04/11/n...

Today FAO’s Council discussed Β«Global food security challenges & driversΒ».

Almost all highlighted increased hunger & the need of multilateral solutions.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ instead demanded that FAO should get back to its core mandate, ditch DEI , & that US support to FAO should directly benefit US taxpayers 😣

This map (by @theguardian.com ) really shows how #TrumpTarriffs hit the global south. No more US support for global development that's for sure. Better let the people Madagascar, Lesotho, Cambodia, Laos & many more suffer & continue living in poverty. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

You're probably right... But in addition to ignorance another key factor is a total lack of empathy. How else can you explain dismantling USAID, revoking DEI initiatives and all the other horrible actions he has taken?

Exactly! Neo-colonialism getting in vogue again 😑

Also, it seems they got an AI to do their calculation without any QC. How else can you explain including uninhabited Islands (Heard and McDonald Islands) on the list, or ridiculous high tarriffs for island territories like Reunion and the Falklands?

In all the outrage on how #TrumpTarrifs will impact EU, & the west, effects on the Global South is worse.

Lesotho, Cambodia, Laos & Madagascar get ̈47-50% tarrifs 😑. These are among the worlds 30% least developed nations & need help to grow their economies, not destroy them.
