Williams have a quite an aggressive floor slot set up ahead of the rear tyre.
Plus, the slotted diffuser opening is apparent here.

[SV 2/2] โ€œWe heard Lewis say you need a degree to understand these cars [..] F1 used to be [โ€ฆ] more about simpler engines and pushing flat out with tyre management in the race.

โ€œNow there's a whole new dynamic. We have the energy side but we also have all the systems on top of that.โ€

Stoeffel Vandoorne (F1 alum and former FE Champion):

โ€œItโ€™s a different type of racing, and I think the clever guys in F1 [โ€ฆ] are going to get on top of that.

โ€œThey're going to exploit the regulations and better understand them than some others. It's becoming more of a thinking series [โ€ฆ]โ€œ

'Not right for F1' - Formula E drivers on Verstappen's 2026 jibe Max Verstappen's description of the new Formula 1 cars as "Formula E on steroids" has elicited varying reactions from the electric championship's paddock - including sympathy

Just read this article with Formula E drivers opining on the comparison of the new F1 cars/regs to FE.

Iโ€™m more convinced than ever thatโ€”once the teams and engineers settle into thingsโ€”this is Carlos Sainzโ€™s moment to shine.

Fun Fact - The same driver has set the fastest time in Bahrain preseason testing the last two seasons but heโ€™s done it in different colours.

2025: Carlos Sainz (Williams)
2024: Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)

True Fact: Having completed two 200km filming days, Williams has logged about 100km more than Aston Martin before Bahrain testing.

Yeah, every team that has released a spec sheet so far has listed their interpretation of the minimum weight (either 770, 772, without or without the 0.4kg deviation for tyres), including Williams. We just donโ€™t know.

05.02.2026 15:14 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

JV hasnโ€™t said anything as far as I know, but the (allegedly real) FW48 spec sheet is circulating among some paddock journos and it lists the weight as 772.4 kg (minimum weight for quali in regs + tyres). Many people have been using 768 kg as the minimum weight number, so thatโ€™s where 4.4 comes from

03.02.2026 21:01 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There are a lot of advantages to having a pull-rod front, but one major disadvantage is itโ€™s harder to access the mechanical components to make set-up changes. This could hamper Williams in testing when trying to experiment with different set-ups quickly, but if it worked for the last 4 WCC carsโ€ฆ ๐Ÿคท

03.02.2026 19:13 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I do wonder if Williams took inspiration from McLaren 2025 MCL39 and/or RBRโ€™s 2022-2025 cars for the pull rod front / push rod rear design. On the other hand, JV implied theyโ€™re doing radical new things with the suspension, so who knows.

03.02.2026 19:05 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Some interesting things the FW48 spec sheet (if real) does tell us:

- Pull-rod front suspension, reversal from FW47. Cadillac & maybe Alpine also pull-rod front at shakedown

- Push-rod rear suspension, same as FW47. Every other team EXCEPT Cadillac & maybe Alpine also push-rod rear at shakedown

03.02.2026 17:30 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The weight on that spec sheet is the minimum weight (for quali, with tyres). The 768kg number that was going around was based on it being 30kg less than the previous regs, but if you read the actual regs, itโ€™s 726kg + tyres (Pirelli dry = 46.4 kg full set).

โ€ฆ So itโ€™s probably not the real weight ๐Ÿ˜”

03.02.2026 17:07 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

To be clear, Iโ€™m not saying the FW48 is probably 30kg overweight. Iโ€™m just saying the spec sheet being circulated doesnโ€™t tell us a whole lot about the final weight. The reported 772.4kg is the minimum weight for qualifying (including Pirelli dry tyre weight).

Seeing a lot of fans get excited at the weight on the spec sheet.

Iโ€™m not claiming to know (or even guess at) anything about the real weight of the FW48, but reality check for Williams fans:

The February 2024 spec sheet for the very overweight FW46 reported the then-minimum weight of 798kg.

As Iโ€™ve always said, the most important part of the Carlos Sainz Effect isnโ€™t even that his arrival coincides with his new team improving, itโ€™s that his departure coincides with his old teamโ€™s decline. Yes McLaren are champions now, but it took them 4 years to beat Ferrari again after 2020.

So I intentionally never took credit for this graphic in 2024 because I didnโ€™t want the attention from opps, but since I keep seeing shoddy updates of it pop up in various places, hereโ€™s an *official* update.

I still donโ€™t want credit for it, so anyone is welcome to disseminate, just donโ€™t @ me

The Vowles Verdict: Azerbaijan 2025 Team Principal James Vowles answers your questions after our podium weekend at the 2025 Azerbaijan GP

The Vowles Verdict is out, and the first question is from yours truly!โ˜บ๏ธ

I asked James about the frustrating quali and the drivers' headspace, but there are also questions about the strategy, some "how does it feel" questions, and an interesting one about expectations. Definitely recommended!
