[SV 2/2] โWe heard Lewis say you need a degree to understand these cars [..] F1 used to be [โฆ] more about simpler engines and pushing flat out with tyre management in the race.
โNow there's a whole new dynamic. We have the energy side but we also have all the systems on top of that.โ
Stoeffel Vandoorne (F1 alum and former FE Champion):
โItโs a different type of racing, and I think the clever guys in F1 [โฆ] are going to get on top of that.
โThey're going to exploit the regulations and better understand them than some others. It's becoming more of a thinking series [โฆ]โ
Just read this article with Formula E drivers opining on the comparison of the new F1 cars/regs to FE.
Iโm more convinced than ever thatโonce the teams and engineers settle into thingsโthis is Carlos Sainzโs moment to shine.
Fun Fact - The same driver has set the fastest time in Bahrain preseason testing the last two seasons but heโs done it in different colours.
2025: Carlos Sainz (Williams)
2024: Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)
True Fact: Having completed two 200km filming days, Williams has logged about 100km more than Aston Martin before Bahrain testing.
11.02.2026 05:26 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah, every team that has released a spec sheet so far has listed their interpretation of the minimum weight (either 770, 772, without or without the 0.4kg deviation for tyres), including Williams. We just donโt know.
05.02.2026 15:14 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0JV hasnโt said anything as far as I know, but the (allegedly real) FW48 spec sheet is circulating among some paddock journos and it lists the weight as 772.4 kg (minimum weight for quali in regs + tyres). Many people have been using 768 kg as the minimum weight number, so thatโs where 4.4 comes from
03.02.2026 21:01 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0There are a lot of advantages to having a pull-rod front, but one major disadvantage is itโs harder to access the mechanical components to make set-up changes. This could hamper Williams in testing when trying to experiment with different set-ups quickly, but if it worked for the last 4 WCC carsโฆ ๐คท
03.02.2026 19:13 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I do wonder if Williams took inspiration from McLaren 2025 MCL39 and/or RBRโs 2022-2025 cars for the pull rod front / push rod rear design. On the other hand, JV implied theyโre doing radical new things with the suspension, so who knows.
03.02.2026 19:05 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Some interesting things the FW48 spec sheet (if real) does tell us:
- Pull-rod front suspension, reversal from FW47. Cadillac & maybe Alpine also pull-rod front at shakedown
- Push-rod rear suspension, same as FW47. Every other team EXCEPT Cadillac & maybe Alpine also push-rod rear at shakedown
I am the walking embodiment of โWell, actuallyโ โ๏ธ ๐ค
03.02.2026 17:42 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The way I broke my X boycott because I am weak in the face of opportunities to correct rampant misinformation ๐
03.02.2026 17:30 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The weight on that spec sheet is the minimum weight (for quali, with tyres). The 768kg number that was going around was based on it being 30kg less than the previous regs, but if you read the actual regs, itโs 726kg + tyres (Pirelli dry = 46.4 kg full set).
โฆ So itโs probably not the real weight ๐
To be clear, Iโm not saying the FW48 is probably 30kg overweight. Iโm just saying the spec sheet being circulated doesnโt tell us a whole lot about the final weight. The reported 772.4kg is the minimum weight for qualifying (including Pirelli dry tyre weight).
03.02.2026 17:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Seeing a lot of fans get excited at the weight on the spec sheet.
Iโm not claiming to know (or even guess at) anything about the real weight of the FW48, but reality check for Williams fans:
The February 2024 spec sheet for the very overweight FW46 reported the then-minimum weight of 798kg.
Weโll miss you Jensen ๐ข
02.02.2026 16:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0As Iโve always said, the most important part of the Carlos Sainz Effect isnโt even that his arrival coincides with his new team improving, itโs that his departure coincides with his old teamโs decline. Yes McLaren are champions now, but it took them 4 years to beat Ferrari again after 2020.

So I intentionally never took credit for this graphic in 2024 because I didnโt want the attention from opps, but since I keep seeing shoddy updates of it pop up in various places, hereโs an *official* update.
I still donโt want credit for it, so anyone is welcome to disseminate, just donโt @ me

Not a 10.0 for Carlos even though I have no idea what he could have done any better but nice to see the recognition
