Haha, nee - al is er zeker een grijs gebied. Maar niet alles wordt in taal gecodeerd. Zo is het v/m-verschil in veel talen niet zichtbaar in de voornaamwoorden, en bij ons alleen in 3e persoon enkelvoud. Etniciteit of seksuele voorkeur is helemaal onzichtbaar. Wij vinden dat ‘logisch’ - maar hoezo?

Ook het verschil 'dan' en 'als' is zo'n oekaze.
De persoonlijke voornaamwoorden zijn een ander geval. Daar is het Nederlandse systeem zwaar in de overgang: van een morfologisch systeem (woordgeslacht is bepalend) naar een semantisch systeem (aard van het substantief is bepalend). Eerlijk gezegd...

Ik deel je gevoelen, maar ik moet er toch op wijzen dat het verschil tussen 'omdat' en 'doordat' ooit kunstmatig ingevoerd is. Zulke oekazes worden maar zelden levend taalgebruik (behalve in spelling); de voornaamste uitzondering die ik ken is het verschil tussen na en naar.
