but mobei doesn’t care; qinghua doesn’t move as the king fusses around with his face and that’s more than enough for him

another meeting just means he gets to do this again :)

now, qinghua is grumbling up at him that they’re going to have to hold this meeting AGAIN and really, there’s only so much talk of agriculture a guy can take before he goes insane and ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME MY KING—

during the meeting without realizing it & even more so when he got flustered at his king looking at him

accidentally smeared onto his cheek earlier.

mobei jun had already been purring bc he was content having his human there during the (frankly, boring) meeting, but it got worse in his amusement bc qinghua had been getting ink all over himself—

packing up all their things and leave while the king is distracted so HOPEFULLY they can avoid his ire once he’s done with the human—

but now that they’re gone, the king allows himself to get up and approach qinghua, raising a hand and wiping at the ink that he’d—

what is shang qinghua even doing that has his king glaring (looking) at him so fondly??

the rumbling only gets louder when qinghua wipes his own cheek with a hand, and the rest of the court has accepted that advisor shang is done for and they all start silently but frantically—

sweating for a completely different reason because he *knows* he’s being purred at and it’s like.

REALLY MY KING?? are you truly so SHAMELESS to be rumbling your affections like this during a meeting about some fucking *checks notes* agricultural project??

squinted in what they think is mounting irritation towards the human still taking his notes even though the court’s been silent for too long save for the king’s growling (purring)

meanwhile qinghua’s writing more frantically while flitting his eyes back & forth between his scrolls and mobei jun—

— convinced the king is going to kill them on the spot if he doesn’t like whatever it is they’re proposing but mobei’s not even looking at them

and ah. the demons still sweat but their gazes hold a note of pity when they notice the king’s eyes are focused solely on his advisor,
