Believing that Trump took over the D.C. police department because he's discovered a crime "emergency" in D.C., is like believing Trump had Ghislaine Maxwell transferred to a "Club Fed" minimum security facility because he's taken a sudden interest in federal prison management.

As far as I can tell the idea that cities have uniquely high rates of crime is entirely fictional, there are just more people there - who all pay a premium to stay there, which would be very hard to explain if they really were uniquely dangerous places to live

Please do not pay attention to this account on economic data. They're citing layoff announcements published by Challenger, which are not specific to a given month or limited to the US. They've also way overestimated layoffs for years now.

Honestly, the thing that bums me out about Trump isn’t even how much he sucks, which is a lot. It’s how him winning in 2024 felt like an ironclad refusal by the American people to want to be better.
