A giant stone plughole at a dam A Miyazaki-looking set of moss-softened stone gateposts in a dark forest A sunny view of a valley in the Peak District

My final blog post about hiking in the Peak District. Features spectacular views, glorious isolation, spooky forests, Roman roads, random gateposts I pretended were left by druids, and giant plugholes that made the whole day feel like "Shadow of the Colossus"

Dropped by the Apple Store at the mall and in the pick-up area four people were getting MacBook Neos.

It's just anecdata from one visit, but it feels like Apple is going to sell a TON of these things.

xAI (x.Al) has apparently paused on its effort to build Macrohard, an artificial intelligence project that would allow developers to simulate the software creation done by companies like Microsoft (MSFT), according to Business Insider.
Instead, CEO Elon Musk has shifted focus to developing Tesla's (TSLA)
Digital Optimus, an Al agent for the electric vehicle company, the report said. This would be a digital version of the humanoid robot Optimus that Tesla has been developing since 2021. It is expected to eventually perform "autonomous software interaction, code generation, and real-time decision-making." Musk wants it to go beyond analyzing screenshots and instead process a continuous stream of information and responses.
Musk initially revealed the Macrohard project in August 2025.
"It's a tongue-in-cheek name, but the project is very real!" Musk said in a post on X at the time. "In principle, given that software companies like Microsoft do not themselves manufacture any physical hardware, it should be possible to simulate them entirely with AI."

So Elon's "we're gonna vibe code Microsoft, not just the software but the whole corporation - how hard could it be?" project is toast.

But no worries he's got a new idea: "what if our bet-the-future upcoming robot ... wasn't physically real?"

TALA is up over 3% this morning on the news.

Report: President Donald Trump Is Giving 'All The Boys' Dress Shoes That Don't Fit Right | Defector It goes without saying that there is a great deal of Psychology going on in Donald Trump’s second term. None of it is especially complicated, because the people involved are without exception clammy, ...

Here's the article that had me laughing out loud yesterday

Back in the day a single Bored Ape NFT could easily go for $230k - this is 78 NFTs, which makes them about $3000 each or so? Still a big drop-off. Hilarious they're trying to compensate the victims with replacements

I gather that when the shoe size discussion first happened everyone started bragging and one-upping each other: "I'm a size 11!" "Well I'm a 14!" And now they can't not wear them. Literally clown shoes

Separate from the substance details: how bad must the internal poll / caucus-level unrest have been for Tim Houston to make THIS big a shift in tone from everything he's been saying and doing the past couple weeks?

In the chaos in Iran, you might have missed the news that Russia's operational momentum has slowed, even reversed, on the frontlines in Ukraine.

Tumblr's Failed Convention: The Story of Dashcon YouTube video by Sarah Z

Finally watching the video about DashCon and realizing this is basically how Trump's America is running the world: underprepared, ad hoc, grifty, abusing those who actually want to help. MAGA 2026 is the ballpit - with a body count youtu.be/HPwgSXZJcok?...

Just killed a man's whole family and accidentally installed him as leader of Iran. We created Super Vengeance Boy and are just assuming he'll leave us alone.

The Discourse has become sort of numb to the fact that the richest guy on earth and owner of a major social media platform just routinely spits out the kind of nakedly white supremacist shit that until a decade ago you rarely saw outside of places like Stormfront.

They're going to write books about all the big brain moves of this gang of imbeciles and among them will be "Spending a year trying to kill renewable energy and then launching a war that sends oil prices soaring"

Two pie charts labelled "School travel models before/after free transit pass." The first pie chart shows that after the pass was implemented that 33.7% of students took transit, while the second shows that before the pass it was only 11.5% Education Minister Brendan Maguire speaking at a podium. Quote: "It's a 20% increase in usership. That's what it is." Education Minister Brendan Maguire at a podium. Quote from journalist (off-camera): "It's a 200% increase, Minister." Education Minister Brendan Maguire at a podium. Quote: "Um, yes, sorry, I'm not the best at numbers."

Nova Scotia's Education Minister, folks. Not exactly making the grade.

It’s wild, they really think they can skip straight to the tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree phase of this absolutely pointless war, without even the barest pretext for why we’re supposed to support it. No Iranian ever called me “libtard.”

“No one campaigned on cutting the arts budgets, slashing through the social safety nets, decimating the civil service organizations.

Had Houston campaigned on those issues, he surely would’ve lost the election.

And that deceit is why I’m angry at Tim Houston.”

I keep seeing people share one version or another of this story and every one traces back to one source which is just one guy, sharing one alleged example. I frankly don’t think the source is telling the truth but at the very least I’m waiting until someone else corroborates any of it.
