A cycle to the Botanics followed by a wee coffee & a stroll.

Reading surrounded by the smell of tropical plants & the sound of Glaswegian grannies saying "a like that wan so a dae" - a reminder that this space is free, accessible & open to all of us. I've always loved that.

A wonderful place! πŸ’›πŸŒ±

Fears for future of Glasgow church as it's at risk of being 'beyond saving' Mount Florida Parish Church has been closed since 2021, and the roof has been open to the elements for months after repair works stalled.

With a costly vital repair project now entirely stalled at the B-listed Mount Florida Parish Church, in Glasgow, and the building looking increasingly forlorn, local residents are concerned about the future of this beloved historic landmark.

A Church of Scotland spokesperson confirmed that a planning application has been submitted so that the memorials could be retained as an "important part of local history in the area" and "to ensure that the organ will continue to be used and cherished as a valued musical instrument."

A Hamilton congregation is seeking the appropriate permissions to remove a stained glass window war memorial by the artist Douglas Hamilton, two brass war memorial plaques and the Forster & Andrews pipe organ from the historic Cadzow Parish Church, that sadly closed in November.

#ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, St Andrews,Tain has a fascinating interior. Much of the woodwork inside is by Robert β€œMouseman” Thomson of Yorkshire whose characteristic signature is a small carved mouse located somewhere on each piece of furniture.

St Andrew's, Tain, #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, is a delightful Highland church, housing some stunning stained glass and a collection of "Mouseman" woodwork. The original "tin tabernacle", from 1878, was replaced by a late Victorian Gothic building designed by Ross & Macbeth of Inverness in 1887.

If you haven't yet read Upon a White Horse you've missed out on a life-enhancing treat. The best thing about owning it in paperback (as with all of Peter's books) is that you can easily carry it on the pilgrimages he inspires you to take, rereading it as you go.

This included explaining how a bicycle chassis ended up in the bell tower (being used for many years to mechanise the bell clapper) and demonstrating how one volunteer still has to manually wind the 200 year old P.Gill & Son clock with a huge iron handle every week!

Our wonderful volunteer church recorders from Aberdeenshire visited the beautiful Banchory East Church this week to document its interior artefacts and furnishings.

The congregation gave them a very warm welcome with tea and refreshments and plenty of stories about their historic church.
